20: 心不在焉
Distracted

Sean took a shower after his 10-kilometer run and went to study at the library. It was his routine. He liked to finish as many of his school assignments as possible before the next week started.
The library was his favorite place to study because he was most productive there. There were few distractions. However, on that Saturday when he was to have dinner with Molly, it was another story.
Sean would start reading a paragraph in his textbook, but before long only his eyes would follow the words on the page - his mind would drift off to Molly. When he caught himself doing that, he would go back and started from the beginning again.
He had always taken pride in his strong willpower, but on that day, he found it very lacking. After a couple of hours of struggling, he went for some water at the drinking fountain to clear his mind.
"Excuse me, are you actually going to use the fountain?" a voice came from behind. Sean then realized he was holding down the button of the water fountain while staring at the stream of water.
"Sorry," Sean mumbled and took a few quick gulps. On his way back to his desk, a scene floated into his mind: a girl waking him up. "When was that?" thought Sean. He recalled that he wasn't outdoors. "I had a book open... I was sitting down..." It finally came to him. It was real - he had fallen asleep on the train on his way home. "She woke me up to get off the train." Now he saw it clearly in his mind. That was Molly.
"That was where I'd seen her for the first time," Sean finally realized. "I need to thank her properly for that. If it wasn't for her, I might have had to spend the night inside the train."
下期续 to be continued.
